Zeeland Seaports plays an essential role in the ports of Terneuzen and Vlissingen. As port authority, Zeeland Seaports is not only responsible for safety of the ports, but also for their development, management and maintenance.
The ports of Terneuzen and Vlissingen have operated under the banner of Zeeland Seaports since Janauary 1, 1998. Zeeland Seaports is a public corporation with a legal personality, formed by the Province of Zeeland and the Borsele, Terneuzen and Vlissingen municipalities. Zeeland Seaports, therefore, is a so-called joint agreement between provincial and municipal authorities.
Zeeland Seaports is responsible for constructing, managing and maintaining the wet and dry infrastructure of both ports. As port authority, Zeeland Seaports is authorized to purchase land and to contract it to eligible users. Also, Zeeland Seaports is authorized to collect port fees and to write issue port regulations.
