Oiltanking Terneuzen B.V. is to substantially increase its handling capacity at Valuepark Terneuzen

Oiltanking Terneuzen B.V. is to substantially increase its handling capacity at Valuepark Terneuzen. This month, the German company signed an agreement with the Norwegian firm Statoil to take care of the latter’s storage needs.

This month, the German company signed an agreement with the Norwegian firm Statoil to take care of the latter’s storage needs. As the increase in throughput will be accompanied by an increase in the number of ship movements, Zeeland Seaports will extend the jetty capacity in the Braakmanhaven.

At Valuepark Terneuzen, Oiltanking mainly stores products for Dow Benelux at the moment. Dow uses these as feedstock for its production process.
The current storage capacity will increase from around 317,000 m3 to a total of more than 470,000 m3. As a result, Oiltanking’s throughput will increase in time to some 6 million tonnes a year.

In connection with this increase in throughput, the jetty that is used by Oiltanking for loading and discharging ships (a so-called oil jetty) must be extended. Following this extension, it will be possible to handle twice the number of ships at once; ships which are also larger.

Hans van der Hart, managing director of Zeeland Seaports, who also manages Valuepark Terneuzen, seems extremely pleased about Oiltanking’s plans. “Not only do we as a port benefit from extra storage and handling capacity, but Oiltanking’s plans are also good for the economy and employment in Zeeland. Moreover, it makes Valuepark Terneuzen even more attractive as a business location for the petrochemical industry in particular.”
The agreement with Statoil will come into effect in 2013.
